Ploughing on through the relentless rain of crap that made up the news between July and December they witness the coming of the mysterious cosmic interloper of 3I/Atlas and the incoherent stream of endless nonsense that Avi Loeb chats about it, several more fantastic fungi, a troubled train driver with chronic insomnia, the completely sensible, benign and not-at-all-horror-movie-fodder thawing of ancient organisms from arctic ice, a genuine fake Bigfoot corpse... and despite sightings of triangular UFOs, Lockheed Martin's new drone and a tentacled alien potato in 2025 did humans become too boring for extraterrestrials to bother visiting us at all? It's that time again - time look back at the year that was, and that was a year that was weird. Hine and Buckley have barely recovered from the horrific ordeal of looking back at 2024 but they bravely get their shit together just about enough to sift through the ragged tatters of weirdness that held together the fabric of reality of 2025.

The Vayse boys encounter the usual suspects: Lue Elizondo, Christopher Mellon, Eric Davis et al, and some new (to the Vayseverse) recurring characters: Mark Christopher Lee, Avi Loeb and the sinister genetics company Colossal Biosciences.

In this dizzying dance through to June of 2025 there are also highly strange encounters with egg shaped UFOs; wooly mice; twitchy dangling robots; foul mouthed relatives of his holiness the Pope; the wreckages of persistent bullshit-talking dullard, Elon Musk's childish, egotistical, spacefaring ambitions; soldiers on the moon... and some mother-fucking snakes on a mother-fucking plane... Concluding their post-mortem of the bloated carcass of 2023 looking for any residual traces of weirdness Hine and Buckley witness it hurtling from June to December like a reckless driver, drunk on curiosity, swerving to avoid a shadowy figure that was never there, crashing through the windshield of wanton deception to land face down and muttering incoherently on the cold, hard tarmac of truth.

As they accompany this moribund year through the bardo they encounter David Grusch and Ryan Graves giving dubious, testimony about their UAP encounters, an unexplained encounter at the bottom of a well, a Russian man drilling into his own skull to try to control his dreams, a couple of dry little guys being dragged out before the Mexican Congress and the threat of desecration to a 30-year-old Vayse sacred text... Possibly the weirdest thing that Vayse could do at this point is to interview someone who doesn't believe in any of this phenomena at all, someone whose no-nonsense approach to searching for the actual facts behind well-known events in fringe history and UFOlogy has earned her Youtube channel tens of thousands of subscribers - it's British documentary maker and researcher Emily Louise.

Hine and Buckley find an unexpected amount of common ground with Emily as they discuss her journey from wide-eyed belief to pragmatic scepticism, what it is that makes human beings sometimes believe ideas that are provably untrue, which famous conspiracy theories Emily thinks probably do have truth to them and Vayse finally tackles (with the help of a hardened sceptic) the recent David Grusch revelations... In VYS0018, Hine and Buckley interviewed author and researcher Kathryn J Preston about her book, the 'LaManChe Zodiac" in which she described a terrestrial zodiac spanning three counties in the north of England. At the heart of this zodiac is Round Loaf, a man-made Neolithic mound constructed millennia ago on the stark moorlands of Anglezarke. According to Kathryn Preston's book, Ley Lines radiate from the mound into the surrounding country and Anglezarke has become a hot spot for UFOs, sightings of cryptids and other high strangeness. In this SideVayse, friend of the show Ric Bennett, a life-long resident of the area, recounts some of his own strange encounters and takes Hine and Buckley on a guided tour of this weird and uncompromising landscape. If you don't know Mark Pilkington by name, chances are you will be familiar with some of his work: he's the author of the seminal history of deception and misinformation throughout the history of the UFO phenomenon, Mirage Men, and producer of the documentary of the same name, he runs Strange Attractor Press, the diverse, beloved and well respected counterculture publisher, he's a journalist, having written for the Fortean Times, the Guardian and Bizarre Magazine amongst others, and he also records and performs music with Teleplamsiste, Luminous Foundation and the Begotten. In this episode Hine and Buckley chat to Mark about the legacy of Mirage Men, which is having a moment again with the tenth anniversary of the documentary falling this year, the recent release of the audiobook and continued favourable nods in the occultosphere and beyond.
