VYS0029 | If There's Something Strange In Your Neighbourhood - Vayse to Face to Face with Field Lines Cartographer and Bob Freeman: Halloween 2023
October 30th, 2023 | Season 2 | 1 hr 48 mins
bob freeman, camp fire, field lines cartographer, flc, ghost stories, ghosts, halloween, occult detective, vayse
Four middle-aged men bravely join forces to confront ancient evils, spooks, spectres and ghosts - ok, so, Vayse did Ghostbusters last Halloween but instead, this year, Hine and Buckley welcome back master of the liminal soundscape, Field Lines Cartographer and the Occult Detective himself, Bob Freeman to sit around the virtual camp fire as they each tell a ghost story from their home towns.
FLC tells a tale of Warwickshire plague pits and feelings of stalking dread in the dark, Hine recounts a gruesome murder in Preston which led to bloody revenge from beyond the grave, Bob spins a classic American yarn of haunted houses in the deep, dark woods of rural Indiana and Buckley tells of the spirit of a young boy who haunts the picturesque town of Great Corby bringing those who encounter him great fortune followed by certain death.
The conversation also turns to whether ghosts are actually, really all that scary, the differences between ghost stories in the UK and the US, the nature of reality itself (of course, this is Vayse)... and digitally transported flies... (Recorded 10 October 2023)

October 11th, 2023 | Season 2 | 1 hr 52 mins
near death experiences, stephanie quick, synchronicities, synchronicity, vayse
Handing on a plate to Hine and Buckley the most potently inspired episode title in Vayse history is teacher, researcher, blogger and "the Julia Child of Sex Magic", Stephanie Quick. In an intense and varied conversation Stephanie takes Vayse through her near death experience, complete with a fall through the starlit sky, disembodied consciousnesses and sky-scraper sized entities, she talks about how to start off your own run of synchronicities and the conversation weaves itself around Carlos Castaneda, Gurdjieff, how to not lose yourself in your spiritual practice or join a cult... and, speaking of cults, enter the glowing orange 16-bit pineapple... In the second part of Hine and Buckley's interview with the indefatigable Douglas Batchelor, creator and host of the luminous What Magic is This? podcast, the dark side is calling. Having explored his guiding principle of positivity and kindness in the previous episode he now explains how his thoughts, philosophies and understanding of magic play out when applied to the spookier side: Hexes, curses, love spells, necromancy, black magic and the left-hand path. Doug also answers some weird questions about ancestor veneration, synchronicity, what books are currently inspiring him and which deadly non-human-entity may be the one that eventually ends each and every one of us... VYS0026 | It's a Wand-erful Life - Vayse to Face with Douglas Batchelor Pt. 1
September 13th, 2023 | Season 2 | 1 hr 28 mins
doug batchelor, douglas batchelor, magic, magick, positivity, vayse, what magic is this?
Hine and Buckley are back for the first episode of season 2 and they've brought Douglas Batchelor along with them! Doug is the host and creator of the incomparable What Magic is This? - a podcast about Magic, the Occult, the Esoteric, the Paranormal, the Supernatural and the Weird and surely the single most frequently mentioned magical resource throughout the first season of Vayse. In the first part of this two-part, slightly giddy interview, the roots of Doug's magical life are revealed as he talks about how he graduated from being a disillusioned materialist teenager to a punk-rock chaos magician to a self-styled-necromantic-performative-ritual-magician with an awesome occult podcast. The conversation bounces around: from synchronicities to Bob Ross, from how to start your own magical practice to Hot Wheels skating gear, from podcasting as a work of magic to the psychic influence of the Lost Boys soundtrack... and all whilst Hine and Buckley try their best to uncover and assimilate the source of Doug's seemingly inexhaustible enthusiasm and positivity... May 24th, 2023 | Season 1 | 36 mins 44 secs
anglezarke, dogman, neolithic mounds, ric bennett, round loaf, sidevayse, ufos, vayse
In VYS0018, Hine and Buckley interviewed author and researcher Kathryn J Preston about her book, the 'LaManChe Zodiac" in which she described a terrestrial zodiac spanning three counties in the north of England. At the heart of this zodiac is Round Loaf, a man-made Neolithic mound constructed millennia ago on the stark moorlands of Anglezarke. According to Kathryn Preston's book, Ley Lines radiate from the mound into the surrounding country and Anglezarke has become a hot spot for UFOs, sightings of cryptids and other high strangeness. In this SideVayse, friend of the show Ric Bennett, a life-long resident of the area, recounts some of his own strange encounters and takes Hine and Buckley on a guided tour of this weird and uncompromising landscape. Recorded 6 May 2023.

VYS0021 | Song of the Dark Man - Vayse to Face with Darragh Mason
May 10th, 2023 | Season 1 | 1 hr 36 mins
dark man, darragh mason, spirit box, vayse
Darragh Mason is a podcasting hero to Hine and Buckley, he's the host of the truly excellent, award-nominated Spirit Box podcast but he's also an multi-award-winning photographer, a researcher specialising in the Djinn and the Aghori Hindu sect and the co-creator of the wonderful Sigil Engine. Darragh's latest project (one of many) is his up-coming book "Song of the Dark Man, Father of Witches" and this episode takes a deep and, at times, emotionally charged dive into the mysterious figure of the Dark Man, his prolific but largely unrecognised role in initiation into the world of witchcraft, his infrequent but significant appearances throughout folklore and his apparent ascent in the psychic aftermath of the pandemic... recorded 2 May 2023.

VYS0019 | It's A Very, Very Mad World - Donnie Darko
April 12th, 2023 | Season 1 | 1 hr 54 mins
donnie darko, mad world, mental health, time travel, vayse
In December 2002 Hine and Buckley met at the Dukes Cinema in Lancaster, Lancashire, UK, for what become one of their most cherished movie-going experiences - to watch an independent film which had already gathered a cult following: Donnie Darko. Donnie Darko is a divisive film popular opinion swings between it being a poignant and magical modern classic to it being amateurish, film school bullshit with an inexplicably great cast (and soundtrack!!!). In this feature length episode (an entire swaggering minute longer than the run-time of the theatrical cut itself!) Hine and Buckley drill down deep into why the film still means so much to them almost 21 years later, what Richard Kelly actually intended the film to mean, why it's actually a '90s masterpiece (despite not being set, made or released in the '90s) and what the "S" in "S. Darko" might stand for... Recorded 16 March 2023.
Warning: Extreme Spoilers For Donnie Darko Follow
