  • VYS0038 | Fuck Capitalism! - Vayse to Face with Rob Kristoffersen

    March 13th, 2024  |  Season 2  |  1 hr 49 mins
our strange skies, rob kristoffersen, uap, uaps, ufo, ufos, welcome ufo people

Unable to put off dedicating an episode to the UFO mystery any longer, Hine and Buckley welcome researcher, podcaster and writer Rob Kristoffersen. Rob is the creator and host of the incredibly popular podcast Our Strange Skies: UFOs Throughout History, co-creator of the web-comic Welcome UFO People and expert on all things extra-terrestrial, ultra-terrestrial, crypto-terrestrial and any other form in which the phenomenon may choose to manifest. Rob talks about his own weird experiences and Hine and Buckley waste no time in asking him the questions that keep them awake at night: What exactly is it that people are seeing when they see UFOs? Are UFO and alien encounters a range of different experiences and phenomena or are they all the same thing viewed through different lenses? What's the deal with Whitley Strieber and what the deal with Jacques Vallée? Is there a connection between UFOs and death? What's really behind the whole Disclosure movement? Which Cryptid has the best PR person? and what does Rob really think about capitalism...? (Recorded 4 March 2024)

  • VYS0037 | Elvis with a Flaming Sword - Vayse to Face with AP Strange

    February 28th, 2024  |  Season 2  |  1 hr 53 mins
ap strange, high strangeness, humour, synchronicity, vayse

In this episode Vayse welcomes AP Strange, a writer, researcher and blogger with a near encyclopaedic knowledge of all things weird and a wicked sense of humour to go with it. Hine and Buckley shake down AP's voluminous brain on a wide range of bizarre topics and greedily feast on the nuggets of information that fall out, including the answers to such questions as: What were the entities that revealed the future to AP as a child and why did he liken them to Mikey Mouse's gloves? Did AP take a ghost for a spin in his Mustang and what was revealed when he got a tarot reading from this suspected phantom? Why is a sense of humour essential to an open mind and what happens if you don't embrace that? How can we learn to receive messages from the cosmos and allow a little more Strange into our lives? How and why do people so often ignore their own experiences of High Strangeness and should more of us be open to accepting the King of Rock 'n' Roll's Flaming Sword...? (Recorded 18 February 2024)

  • VYS0036 | Infinite Game - Vayse to Face with Joseph Matheny

    February 14th, 2024  |  Season 2  |  2 hrs 2 mins
alternate reality game, arg, args, joseph matheny, liminal cycle, ong's hat, vayse

Some rare art transcends reality, some even rarer art seems to create a new reality altogether - the work of Joseph Matheny does both of these things while embracing the trickster spirit inherent in the magickal traditions in which his work has its roots.

Joseph talks to Hine and Buckley about Ong's Hat, his "living book" project, widely recognised as the first Alternate Reality Game, and how it took on a life of it's own, not only for the people who were playing it but also for the people who created it. The conversation also turns to synchronicity and how his recent work, the Liminal Cycle, seems to generate synchronicity in the lives of those who engage with it, how his work connects so closely to magick, nature and theatre, his experiences in the North Pole and how they affected his writing, the use of magic in political systems and how the internet we know and love (to hate) today retains the legacy of the ritual magicians and DnD enthusiasts who created it... • VYS0035 | The Weird Review of the Year 2023 Pt.2

    January 31st, 2024  |  Season 2  |  1 hr 13 mins
2023, ai, artificial intelligence, uaps, ufos, weird year

Concluding their post-mortem of the bloated carcass of 2023 looking for any residual traces of weirdness Hine and Buckley witness it hurtling from June to December like a reckless driver, drunk on curiosity, swerving to avoid a shadowy figure that was never there, crashing through the windshield of wanton deception to land face down and muttering incoherently on the cold, hard tarmac of truth.

As they accompany this moribund year through the bardo they encounter David Grusch and Ryan Graves giving dubious, testimony about their UAP encounters, an unexplained encounter at the bottom of a well, a Russian man drilling into his own skull to try to control his dreams, a couple of dry little guys being dragged out before the Mexican Congress and the threat of desecration to a 30-year-old Vayse sacred text... (recorded 15 January 2024)

  • VYS0034 | The Weird Review of the Year 2023 Pt.1

    January 24th, 2024  |  Season 2  |  1 hr 22 mins
2023, artificial intelligence, uaps, weird review of the year

2023 was a weird year, a slightly frightening year, a year dominated by UAPs becoming ever more unidentified, AIs becoming ever more intelligent, the Military–industrial complex becoming ever more complex and human beings becoming ever more fucking stupid. In this first part of the second annual Weird Review of the Year, Hine takes Buckley on a fevered journey through the haunted forest of the memories of the year that was, stopping along the way to point out the many strange lights in the sky, the fierce black leopards in the long grass, and the spoon bending, sooth-saying light entertainer hiding in the dark shadows cast by the impenetrable canopy of misinformation onto the windy, uncertain and often deceptive desire-path of truth... • VYS0033 | Battle-Owl vs Sci-fi Centipede - Vayse to Face with Loren Fetterman

inner-astrology, loren fetterman, magic, magick, psychedelics, synchromysticism, synchronicity

In this episode artist, illustrator, esoteric free-thinker and Hine's tattoo-artist of choice, Loren Fetterman, completely blows Hine and Buckley's minds in a mushroom cloud of psychedelics, synchro-mysticism and inner astrology. Loren gives Hine and Buckley a whirlwind tour of his unique, self-styled brand of magick, detailing how he brings back and integrates life-changing ideas from this trips, how he invented a mirror point calendar system and bone watch to track his own personal symmetry, how he uses insight meditation to understand the recurring fractal cycles and patterns which form his life and wider reality and how he summoned a Battle-Owl to defeat an attacking Sci-fi Centipede formed entirely from his baby photos... Roger leads Hine and Buckley through a quest which is thousands of years and many life cycles old as they discuss his life within the tradition of Tibetan Buddhism and what it actually teaches: was the Buddha a real person? Is life sorrow and suffering? What is the Tao?... and he divulges some of the weirder, reality-defying experiences he has had on his travels including mind reading, a monk's arm stretching to six feet long and a lama summoning a parliament of owls as a spiritual escort to Edinburgh Airport... (recorded 13 November 2023)

  • VYS0030 | To Believe or Not to Believe - Vayse to Face with Emily Louise

    November 15th, 2023  |  Season 2  |  1 hr 12 mins
conspiracy theories, emily louise, sceptic, ufos, weird reads with emily louise

Possibly the weirdest thing that Vayse could do at this point is to interview someone who doesn't believe in any of this phenomena at all, someone whose no-nonsense approach to searching for the actual facts behind well-known events in fringe history and UFOlogy has earned her Youtube channel, tens of thousands of subscribers - it's British documentary maker and researcher Emily Louise.

Hine and Buckley find an unexpected amount of common ground with Emily as they discuss her journey from wide-eyed belief to pragmatic scepticism, what it is that makes human beings sometimes believe ideas that are provably untrue, which famous conspiracy theories Emily thinks probably do have truth to them and Vayse finally tackles (with the help of a hardened sceptic) the recent David Grusch revelations... • VYS0029 | If There's Something Strange In Your Neighbourhood - Vayse to Face to Face with Field Lines Cartographer and Bob Freeman: Halloween 2023

    October 30th, 2023  |  Season 2  |  1 hr 48 mins
bob freeman, camp fire, field lines cartographer, flc, ghost stories, ghosts, halloween, occult detective, vayse

Four middle-aged men bravely join forces to confront ancient evils, spooks, spectres and ghosts - ok, so, Vayse did Ghostbusters last Halloween but instead, this year, Hine and Buckley welcome back master of the liminal soundscape, Field Lines Cartographer and the Occult Detective himself, Bob Freeman to sit around the virtual camp fire as they each tell a ghost story from their home towns.

FLC tells a tale of Warwickshire plague pits and feelings of stalking dread in the dark, Hine recounts a gruesome murder in Preston which led to bloody revenge from beyond the grave, Bob spins a classic American yarn of haunted houses in the deep, dark woods of rural Indiana and Buckley tells of the spirit of a young boy who haunts the picturesque town of Great Corby bringing those who encounter him great fortune followed by certain death.

The conversation also turns to whether ghosts are actually, really all that scary, the differences between ghost stories in the UK and the US, the nature of reality itself (of course, this is Vayse)... and digitally transported flies... (Recorded 10 October 2023)

near death experiences, stephanie quick, synchronicities, synchronicity, vayse

Handing on a plate to Hine and Buckley the most potently inspired episode title in Vayse history is teacher, researcher, blogger and "the Julia Child of Sex Magic", Stephanie Quick. In an intense and varied conversation Stephanie takes Vayse through her near death experience, complete with a fall through the starlit sky, disembodied consciousnesses and sky-scraper sized entities, she talks about how to start off your own run of synchronicities and the conversation weaves itself around Carlos Castaneda, Gurdjieff, how to not lose yourself in your spiritual practice or join a cult... and, speaking of cults, enter the glowing orange 16-bit pineapple... • VYS0027 | Batchelor of Dark Arts - Vayse to Face with Douglas Batchelor Pt. 2

In the second part of Hine and Buckley's interview with the indefatigable Douglas Batchelor, creator and host of the luminous What Magic is This? podcast, the dark side is calling. Having explored his guiding principle of positivity and kindness in the previous episode he now explains how his thoughts, philosophies and understanding of magic play out when applied to the spookier side: Hexes, curses, love spells, necromancy, black magic and the left-hand path. Doug also answers some weird questions about ancestor veneration, synchronicity, what books are currently inspiring him and which deadly non-human-entity may be the one that eventually ends each and every one of us... Doug is the host and creator of the incomparable What Magic is This? - a podcast about Magic, the Occult, the Esoteric, the Paranormal, the Supernatural and the Weird and surely the single most frequently mentioned magical resource throughout the first season of Vayse. In the first part of this two-part, slightly giddy interview, the roots of Doug's magical life are revealed as he talks about how he graduated from being a disillusioned materialist teenager to a punk-rock chaos magician to a self-styled-necromantic-performative-ritual-magician with an awesome occult podcast. The conversation bounces around: from synchronicities to Bob Ross, from how to start your own magical practice to Hot Wheels skating gear, from podcasting as a work of magic to the psychic influence of the Lost Boys soundtrack... and all whilst Hine and Buckley try their best to uncover and assimilate the source of Doug's seemingly inexhaustible enthusiasm and positivity... Penny Royal has been a huge influence on Vayse, and Hine and Buckley geek out as the conversation goes deep, wide and weird - from discussion of Penny-Royal-favourite topics such as cybernetics and synchronicity to pondering Hansen's trickster and theories on the nature of elementals and non-human intelligence by way of terrifying stories of faceless dream entities and a firm consensus on the importance of maintaining a healthy hatred of Nazis... and to sweeten the deal even more, Nathan drops a few breadcrumbs as to what kind of weird stuff to expect from Penny Royal season 3... paul weston, synchro-mysticism

It's episode 23 and joining Hine and Buckley to pull that cosmic trigger is none other than author, researcher, lecturer and master of synchro-mysticism, Paul Weston. In the way that only Paul knows how, he spins a wonderful, breath-taking web of strange events, synchronicities and bizarre connections which all emerged in a single extremely powerful month in his home town of Glastonbury - How did he end up scattering Courtney Love's father's ashes in the centre of the Glastonbury Zodiac? How does that relate to a series of macabre and grisly murders? And how did the discovery of a swastika on the threshold of Dion Fortune's former residence trigger a waking-dream-proximity-alert? Paul also talks about how Cosmic Trigger is a psycho-active book (a trip he's taken 29 times!), how you can encourage synchronicities in your own life and how to deal with Chapel Perilous when your time comes... recorded 26 March 2023
